Candidates prepared in early childhood degree programs are grounded in a child development knowledge base. They use their understanding of young children’s characteristics and needs, and of multiple interacting influences on children’s development and learning, to create environments that are healthy, respectful, supportive, and challenging for each child.

Standards 1 Artifact 1: While taking classes at Oakland Community College we were asked to write a paper on an influential Early Childhood Theorist. I chose Lev Vygotsky but in the process of learning about Lev, I researched on a lot of other Early Childhood Theorists and all of their works. This helped me gain exponential knowledge on the many influences and types of teaching styles that we use today.

Standard 1 Artifact 2: Key element 1c states that using developmental knowledge to create healthy, respectful, supportive and challenging learning environments for our young students is an important factor in being a high quality teacher, this means our room layout is just as important as our individual attention and our lesson plans.
